Man Crashes Cadillac Into Liquor Store, Sips Bourbon, Eats Chips And Smokes Cigar Before Being Detained

A liquor store in Stoneham, Massachusetts is open again after the driver of a black Cadillac drove through its front door. But things are a little more complicated than that.

The Cadillac was being driven by 54-year-old John Bacigalupo, a man with alleged mob connections who was once convicted in a 1996 slaying in Revere, seemed to be alright after the crash. Certainly, he was well enough to get out of the car, walk into the store and help himself to some chips, a Budweiser, sip some expensive bourbon, and smoke a cigar before the police arrived on the scene.

Stoneham police told CBS Boston that they were initially called to the store for a report of a burglary alarm. Once they arrived on the scene, they saw the car crashed into the store and located Bacigalupo inside, near the cash registers, smoking his cigar.

Police say that Bacigalupo told them that he had a gun and “said that they needed to shoot him while motioning behind his back to his waistline.”

Police did not shoot and, instead, tasered Bacigalupo. Despite that, he fought them off and hit an officer in the face before they could place him in handcuffs. As a result, he now faces charges of breaking and entering, assault and battery of a police officer, larceny under $1,200, and more. Bacigalupo, who previously served 13 years for murder, is now being held on $100,000 bail.

Fortunately for the owners of Rapid Liquors, repairs weren’t too difficult and the store is open again. The owners appear to have a sense of humor about the whole event, too.

“Our overnight ‘drive-thru renovation’ didn’t go as planned so we will have a delayed opening on Saturday, January 8th, and ask that you bear with us while we have our store repaired,” Rapid Liquors said on a Facebook post that is no longer public.
